Sime Darby Property Young Sustainability Ambassador Programme brings environmental awareness
ARA DAMANSARA, 4 May 2016 - Sime Darby Property’s Young Sustainable Ambassador (YSA) Programme Roadshow, which was held at KL East, Melawati took off with a great start to the weekend recently. Themed ‘Urban Ecology’, the event was the fourth YSA Roadshow after Bukit Jelutong, Denai Alam and The Glades.

The “Urban Ecology” concept aimed to build awareness within children from 7 - 17 years of age, about the meaning of ecology with fun activities. These included creating their own mini terrarium with small plants, and creative ways of using parts of fruits and vegetables to produce art, allowing kids to understand the importance of being sustainable yet creative in their daily lives.

Children aged between 7-12 years old participating in the ‘artistic’ activity using old fruit and vegetables.
Participants aged 13-17 years old were taught on how to create their own potted plants in used jars.
Children displaying their artwork created using vegetables and fruit.
Some of the ‘mini terrariums’ created in used recycled jars.
With the additional new YSA members from Melawati KL East area, the YSA program now boasts more than 420 members.

Sime Darby Property started the YSA Programme in 2013 as a program solely for the children of Sime Darby Property employees, focusing on embedding an understanding of sustainability and how it applies to how we live. The program focuses on embedding this knowledge through a process known as experiential learning through activities and events. The YSA program has recently been expanded to include children within selected Sime Darby Property townships, with the aim to expand the program across most of the township communities by next year.
