The achievements reaffirm Sime Darby Property's position as a leading property developer in Malaysia that is serious about advancing its sustainability agenda.
At the BCA Awards 2011 by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore, Sime Darby Property's Idea House received the first ever Platinum Green Mark to be awarded to a project or developer in the residential category in Malaysia or Singapore. The Award was presented by Mr Mah Bow Tan, Minister for National Development at a ceremony held in Singapore on 19 May 2011.
Known for its stringent criteria, the BCA Green Mark is a green building rating system that evaluates a building for its environmental impact and performance. Endorsed and supported by the National Environment Agency, it provides a comprehensive framework for assessing the overall environmental performance of new and existing buildings to promote sustainable design, construction and operations practices in buildings.
The environmental friendliness of a building is rated on a point-scoring approach, with rating categorised into four levels Platinum, Gold Plus, Gold and Certified.
At the BCI Asia Awards held in Kuala Lumpur on 20 May 2011, Sime Darby Property also bagged the Top 10 Developers Award and FuturArc Green Leadership Award 2011.
The BCI awards recognise the achievements of top regional architect firms and developers in the industry that have made the greatest impact on the built environment in Southeast Asia.
This is the first time that BCI Asia has introduced the Top 10 Developers 2011 Awards as recognition to the Top 10 property developers in BCI Asia territory. Among other Malaysian recipients are IOI Properties, LBS Bina Group, Mah Sing Group, Mutiara Goodyear Development Bhd, Paramount Property Development Sdn Bhd, SP Setia Bhd, Sunrise Bhd, Sunway City Bhd and PKNS.
The FuturArc Green Leadership Award, which is conferred to the Sime Darby Idea House, seeks out innovative and ecologically responsible buildings in Asia. The award also recognises the team behind a completed project that have demonstrated the best in innovation and environmental stewardship in architecture the developer, consultants and contractors, who have collectively pushed the limits and definition of what a Green building is in Asia and Australia.
At both award ceremonies, Sime Darby Property was represented by its Managing Director, Dato' Tunku Putra Badlishah ibni Tunku Annuar.
