Ara Damansara, 19 June 2014 - Sime Darby Property Berhad solidified its position as a leading sustainability champion in Malaysia s property industry when it was once again placed in the Top Ten Developers of the BCI Asia Awards 2014 for its commitment towards sustainable development, making this its fourth consecutive win. The much-coveted award is a tribute to the most commercially significant developers in Malaysia, Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The regional Awards, spearheaded by BCI (Building and Construction Information) Asia, which is a leading information provider for the construction industry, are aimed at recognizing the efforts of the top 10 architectural firms and developers that have made the greatest impact on the built environment in Asia.
Dato Seri Wahab Maskan, Group Chief Operating Officer of Sime Darby Berhad and Managing Director of Sime Darby Property Berhad, said, The recognition of Sime Darby Property as one of the best sustainable developers in the country is further testament to our success in building sustainable communities that reflect the needs of today and tomorrow. It also provides our homegrown brand with the opportunity to enhance our presence and reputation internationally. We are already extending our reach, especially in London with our Battersea Power Station, a joint development project that is an iconic achievement in sustainability. ?
Sustainability is a core value for us and we re currently driving several projects in Malaysia that involve urban regeneration to ensure our townships continue meeting the demands of urbanization, while generating value and reducing our environmental footprint, all of which contribute towards creating a sustainable community. ?
The Top Ten Developers in each country were judged on total aggregate value of projects under construction throughout 2013. Winners are measured on the sustainability of projects as well as green certification.
Several projects for each winner were taken into account. Contributing to the win for Sime Darby Property were various properties in Denai Alam, Elmina East, Bandar Bukit Raja and Veo Melawati among others. ?
Being cognisant of the industry s carbon footprint and by extension its own commitment to being responsible for the environment, Sime Darby Property plans to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 20% by 2015. This is also in support of the Malaysian Government s quest to reduce 40% of GHG emissions by year 2020 and to adopt sustainable technologies and practices that will benefit the country, industry and society at large.
The award ceremony took place recently at the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur.
