ARA DAMANSARA, 19 April 2016 – The first apartment created to showcase homes designed by renowned architectural firm Gehry Partners is opening at Battersea Power Station.
Gehry Partners, one of the world’s most innovative architectural practices, has designed homes; commercial space and children’s play area for Prospect Place, which forms part of the new High Street at Battersea Power Station. The distinctive buildings will form the eastern side of the new High Street that runs from the historic Power Station building down to the new Zone 1 underground station served by the Northern Line. Prospect Place will be Gehry’s first residential project in the UK.
Rob Tincknell, CEO of Battersea Power Station Development Company says, “This is an exciting day not just for London but for the UK as it will offer a first glimpse into the world of Gehry here at Battersea Power Station. Everyone involved is delighted to be able to show people the extraordinary craftsmanship and design from this exemplary architectural team which is bringing its world-famous innovation to London.”
Gehry Partners’ design at Battersea Power Station will comprise a cluster of five buildings, each with striking sculptural façades inspired by London’s famous John Regency terraces. Anchored by the distinctive ‘Flower’ building, the design is reminiscent of the billowing sails of ships. The undulations of the façades accommodate unique spaces of extraordinary quality within, with no two homes are the same.
Gehry Partners has designed two palettes for the interiors at Prospect Place – LA and London. The new show apartment at the development will highlight the LA interior throughout, with an additional ‘London’ bathroom also showcased. The LA interior is all about adventure, excitement and breaking out of the ordinary design concepts. Buyers, for the first time, will be able to see features such as the distinctive rough sawn oak-fronted kitchen cabinets with open display shelves. The use of wood has been integral to the concept from the beginning of the design process, a decision that is reflected throughout the apartment. The London palette is inspired by the global city itself and includes features such as chevron flooring and metallic kitchens.
Visitors to the show apartment will enjoy an exclusive sneak peek of the way each home’s unique internal living space is crafted by the awe-inspiring curved façade. Visitors will also be able to experience the project’s winter gardens, which offer versatile living throughout the year and maximise the light and views across the site.
Between the five buildings, there is a beautiful private garden for residents, reflective of London’s famous garden squares. Each building will have its front door both at street level and at garden level via The Flower which will have a spectacular central entrance lobby.
There will be a Gehry Partners-designed Residents’ Club extending to 5,000 sq. ft. over an entire floor of The Flower. The club’s spaces include extensive social, lounge, library and workspaces spilling out onto the residents’ gardens and overlooking the pedestrianised Electric Boulevard below. Private rooms will be available to hire, including a large chef’s table and dining room, library/screening room and meeting rooms. There will also be a holistic yoga studio and treatment rooms.
Residents of Prospect Place will also benefit from the excellent amenity spaces within the Foster + Partners designed Battersea Roof Gardens, including a large residents’ club at the top of the building with Power Station views, the rooftop residents’ garden, and a large gym, also with Power Station views.
The appointment of Gehry Partners, in a unique collaboration with Foster + Partners, is widely regarded as one of the most exciting aspects of the regeneration of Battersea Power Station. It underlines the vision and confidence which the Malaysian consortium shareholders of S P Setia, Sime Darby and the Employees’ Provident Fund have brought to the project.
Homes within Prospect Place are available with prices starting at £1.311m for a 2-bedroom apartment. The show apartments are open from Monday to Saturday and by appointment only. To book to meet the sales team please contact
