Approach

In 2019, we strengthened our Quality Assurance (QA) process as detailed:

  • Pre Construction
Review of essential materials to be tested in ensuring that the materials used are reliable, lasting and suitable for the product. Further reviews cover design and development processes. Findings from our internal reviews are compiled and documented as lessons learnt whereby project teams are guided in enhancing product quality.
  • Construction
The frequency, scope and intensity of our inspections increased from 5 to 7 inspections. In addition, to the existing inspection activities, we included additional architectural stage quality checks for common area facilities (for stratified development), in-phase infra inspection (for landed development), and a pre-mock-up unit inspection.
  • Post Construction
Handing Over and Defects Management Monitoring & Reporting are conducted at this stage.
Initiatives
  • CIDB QLASSIC Quality Assessment compulsory for all residential products.
  • Continuous Improvement Programmes and continuous engagement.
  • Assurance.

Overview

Businesses not only needs to fulfill an economic function, but also needs to be socially responsible. Our CSR focus is aligned towards developing sustainable communities through shared value creation for women, children, foreign workers, indigenous people and local communities. We work to implement solutions with local community engagement and develop solutions in accordance with this aim. In doing so, we partner with civil society to achieve these outcomes sought.

Rationale

Sime Darby Property undertakes an ongoing Social Responsibility CSR program to support the base principle of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030, which is to leave no one behind.

Key Initiatives

Our recent CSR initiatives have included some of the following:

17 volunteer projects were implemented with a total of 1,386 volunteer hours, contributed by 310 volunteers. This include our Sime Darby Property Volunteers Programme (SDPVP), ‘Drop Everything and Roll (D.E.A.R) Programme andTPC KL Ramadhan Zero Food Waste Programme.
Sime Darby Property collaborated with Yayasan Sime Darby (Sime Darby Foundation) to roll-out a programme dedicated to raising mental health awareness, named the Great Minds Campaign. This was in collaboration with the Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA) and Mental Illness Awareness and Support Association (MIASA). The campaign aimed to focus on three (3) critical areas; raising awareness, educating society on the early identification of mental health issues and engaging stakeholders on how to care for their mental health through workshops, forums, partnership engagements, awareness programmes and sporting activities.
Sime Darby Property collaborated with YSD to carry out a few initiatives under the ‘Sinar Harapan’ Project. This flagship programme aims to assist underprivileged communities with various critical needs. Through the programme Sime Darby Property provided school supplies to underprivileged children via the ‘Back to School’ programme and gave food assistance to those in need. The Project also actively assists the communities during festive season.
Under Back to School Programme, we have distributed new sets of uniforms, school supplies and backpacks to 698 underprivileged students from nine (9) selected schools located within and nearby Sime Darby Property townships in Kuala Lumpur, Klang, Shah Alam, Labu and Pagoh.
7,500 kilos of unwanted fabric were collected under Fabric Recycling Movement Campaign. We collaborated with Kloth Malaysia Sdn Bhd as the “Fabric Recycling Partner” and Lifeline Clothing Malaysia Sdn Bhd as the “Fabric Recycling Operator” in September 2018. This initiative aims to educate our employees to recycle unwanted fabric that will ultimately end up in landfills. Clothes collected from this initiative are segregated at the collection center and those that are still in good condition are sent to charitable organisations locally and abroad.
During the holy month of Ramadan, 30 children from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Ummi, Selangor; and 211 indigenous families from Kg Tekir and Kg Sebir, Labu, Negeri Sembilan received food and other essential items as a gesture of goodwill. Monetary contribution was also made to Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Ummi by Impian Golf & Country Club, Kajang through the sales of iftar buffet vouchers.
Overview

Although we plan and build all our townships and integrated developments to embed sustainability, from planning, to construction, to occupation, we selectively choose products that go through third party Green Certification. Below is a range of green certified examples.

Objective

Third party verification of green projects to assure customers and stakeholders of a product or township’s low carbon impact and energy efficiency potential.

Rationale

To support the world agenda on climate change mitigation and impact reduction. High-performing green buildings or township certification plays a key role in reducing the negative climate impacts of the built environment. Green ratings either local or international allocate high weightage to climate change mitigation strategies such as:

  • GHG emissions reduction during construction activities e.g., building and infra works.
  • GHG emissions reduction from building operations energy use directly associated with building operations.
Benefits
  • Reduction in the usage of energy, water and material resources and waste.
  • Minimise negative environmental impacts.
  • Improvement of indoor environmental quality for better health and well-being.
