Discover The Glades,
Putra Heights:
A Nature-Infused Community by Sime Darby Property

As stewards of our planet, Sime Darby Property embraces the responsibility to ensure a sustainable future. Recognising that urban biodiversity plays a vital role in the health of our environment, we are committed to fostering a harmonious coexistence between urban spaces and the natural world. At Putra Heights, this mission comes to life through The Glades, a premier residential development just 28 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur, where nature is integrated into its core design, promoting a balanced ecosystem that benefits both the community and the environment. Central to this eco-conscious development are the eight bioswales that form the lifeblood of The Glades, seamlessly blending urban infrastructure with the rhythms of the natural world.
These bioswales, which replace conventional concrete drains, do far more than just manage stormwater. They channel life into the heart of the community, supporting a rich diversity of plants and wildlife. Through its biophilic design principles, Putra Heights fosters a living environment where both nature and residents can coexist side by side. The design of these bioswales is inspired by natural waterways, and they guide rainwater towards a sprawling 2.33-acre central pond. More than just functional, these bioswales offer both aesthetic and ecological benefits, enhancing the beauty and sustainability of the landscape.

Jogging Path, The Glades

Putra Heights is home to an astonishing array of flora and fauna that thrive within the green corridors and natural features of the development. Over 45 bird species, including both resident and migratory species, find refuge in its green spaces. Birds such as the Oriental Honey-buzzard and the Ashy Minivet use Putra Heights as a stopover during their long migratory journeys. Travelling thousands of kilometres from breeding grounds in regions including Russia, Siberia, and China to escape the winter, these birds refuel at Putra Heights before continuing their migration further south. This stopover emphasises the ecological significance of the area and highlights the role of urban green spaces in supporting global biodiversity. Meanwhile, the presence of native species, such as the majestic Grey-Headed Fish Eagle, a rare sight in urban developments, demonstrates the resilience and health of this urban ecosystem.

In addition to its rich avian life, the ecological wealth of the area is further enhanced by the presence of pollinators that play an essential role in maintaining the health of the ecosystem. The Glades’ living walls and roofs, densely planted with flowering shrubs, attract a wide variety of species. 31 species of butterflies, 13 species of bees and wasps, and 14 species of dragonflies and damselflies are found throughout the Glades, serving as essential pollinators and natural pest controllers. Recognised for its role in supporting plant life and agriculture, the Asian Honeybee thrives in this urban sanctuary, ensuring that Putra Heights remains a vibrant, self-sustaining ecosystem.
The Glades exemplifies sustainable urban living by incorporating natural elements into everyday spaces. Along its pedestrian walkways, multi-species tree plantings create microhabitats that reduce the urban heat island effect, providing not only comfort for residents but also food and shelter for insects, birds, and mammals. This thoughtful design encourages a symbiotic relationship between humans and the environment, where each contributes to the well-being of the other.

While The Glades is designed with sustainability at its core, it also places strong emphasis on creating a sense of community through engagement with the natural world. Residents are invited to experience the biodiversity around them through various initiatives such as bird-watching sessions, guided nature walks, and ecological workshops. These activities foster a greater appreciation for the environment and also help cultivate a deeper sense of responsibility towards its preservation.
As urban environments continue to expand, developments like Putra Heights will play a pivotal role in promoting environmental sustainability. This vision for the future not only enhances the beauty and livability of urban areas but also ensures that nature remains an integral part of city life, fostering a sense of community rooted in ecological balance.
